The CostaLab Natural Drive MKII is the buffered version of our beloved Natural Drive, designed to offer even more dynamic response, definition, and expressive control.
Its circuit is based on a traditional distortion network with symmetrical germanium clipping, giving the tone a vintage character—warm, round, and rich in harmonics.
What truly sets it apart is its transparency: your guitar’s natural voice remains untouched. Even with sustain at maximum, you can easily achieve a clean tone by adjusting your playing dynamics. Conversely, when you dig in, the Natural Drive MKII responds with a creamy, rich, and cutting distortion, capturing the essence of a cranked single-channel tube amp.
Despite the high levels of gain it can deliver, the pedal remains incredibly quiet, thanks to careful circuit design and top-quality components.
The Dynamic Tone Control interacts with the Gain knob: at high gain settings, the sound becomes open and harmonically rich, while at lower gain, it naturally tightens. By adjusting the tone, you can compensate and retain balance and clarity in any situation.
A key feature of the MKII is its always-on Class A buffer, designed with high input impedance. This ensures every nuance of your playing is preserved, improves note separation, and provides strong rejection of radio interference.
To ensure optimal radio rejection noises, we recommend powering the pedal with a dedicated power supply (Boss PSA type or equivalent), or an isolated galvanic output. Nonetheless, the Natural Drive MKII can also operate reliably when powered along with other pedals.
Additional features:
Buffered mechanical switching with always-active buffer
Anti-pop filter for smooth, silent switching
Powered by 9, 12, or 18 volts DC (center-negative, 2.1 mm plug)
Current draw under 20 mA
Compact dimensions: 60 x 111 x 30 mm (excluding knobs and jacks)
